books?? amazing. paperbacks?? soft, cozy, may fit in your pocket, cheap so you don’t feel bad for taking notes in them. hardcovers??? beautiful, pristine, ground you into the world they hold by making you grip them tighter, the stars of every bookshelf. ebooks?? convenient, cheap, always with you, a vast library that you can hold in your palm. new books?? crisp, the smell of wood, ideas waiting to imprint themselves upon the world. old books?? objects transcending history, sweet smelling, enriched by the hands that stroked their pages. books.
bookstores?? heavenly. independent?? small and cozy, comforting, like coming home, a quiet little niche in a loud world, quaint in the best sense. chain?? large, amazing, inspiring, so many options, so much knowledge, so many worlds, peaceful even with lots of people in the same space. new?? untouched, pristine, exciting, coffee scented air and new pleather chairs, grabbing every interesting book off the shelf, creating a stack too thick to hold comfortably and too large to get through reasonably. old?? quiet rustling, old couches, aging parchment and paper glue, reverent searching and touching, trailing fingertips along spines and down rows, gently plucking a novel from shelf and sinking to the floor, blissful hours spent in a new world. bookstores.

I was sitting in the backseat of a car. It looked as if we were driving into a bright, purple light. The two people in the front were silhouetted by the light so I couldn’t see their faces. They were talking but I couldn’t hear their words, then suddenly the driver said to the passenger beside them,
“Americans talk about such silly things,”
and then the passenger responded in such a calm tone,

Here’s an unpopular opinion that shouldn’t be unpopular: Not wanting sex is a reasonable boundary to set for literally any reason. Be it your trauma, your mental health, your sexuality, or any other factor. Your partners should respect that and they should respect you. This shouldn’t be a debate.
